USC Sports Medicine is a division within the University of South Carolina Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The USC Sports Medicine Center is dedicated to providing the most advanced state-of-the-art care for the athletes of the University of South Carolina. The primary care sports medicine needs of the University of South Carolina athletes are provided by the USC Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. USC Sports Medicine has three orthopaedic surgeons, Dr. Jeffrey Guy, Dr. Christopher Mazoue and Dr. John Walsh. Dr. Jeffrey Guy is currently the medical director for University of South Carolina intercollegiate athletics.
Dr. Jason Stacy is also a member of USC Sports Medicine and currently serves as the head primary care sports medicine physician for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and is the fellowship director for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine/Palmetto Health Richland primary care sports medicine fellowship. Kevin Herod, MS, ATC is the athletic training coordinator for USC Sports Medicine. “We welcome the opportunity to provide the highest level of care to the remainder of the University athletes”, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery interim chairman, Dr. John Walsh said.
In addition to the Gamecocks, USC Sports Medicine provides care for numerous other local professional, collegiate and high school teams. USC Sports Medicine employs a comprehensive approach towards athletes of all ages and skill levels with the goal of getting its athletes back into competition after insuring the safety and well being of its patients.
