(Columbia, SC) --- Jeffery Guy, MD, Team Physician and Medical Director for the University of South Carolina Athletic Department is headed to the NFL combine in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The combine begins Thursday and runs through next Tuesday. Dr. Guy will be spending three days in Indianapolis participating in education meetings, group discussions and observing the physicals performed on the athletes.
Joining Dr. Guy will be Dr. Rudolph Hoellrich, from the University of Oregon. This newly created program invites two team physicians from NCAA Division I schools to the annual event in Indianapolis.
The NFL physician's society is focusing on conferences and schools that tend to have players represented at the combine.
The goals of the program are:
1) foster a good, working relationship between college and team physicians and the NFL team physicians to co-educate each other regarding sports-related medical and orthopedic issues in college and the NFL
2) give college team physicians the perspective on what happens at the combines and how to best answer questions
3) address issues at their institutions related to the preparation for the combine
Dr. Guy will see several former USC players at the event including Tori Gurley, Chris Culliver and Ladi Ajiboye. Gurley finished up 2010 as a redshirt sophomore and made himself available for the draft.
