Columbia, SC - The University of South Carolina’s Athletic Training Education Program is proud to host the 2011 South
Carolina Athletic Training Association’s Collegiate Workshop. The workshop brings together the athletic
training students, faculty, and staff from all the Athletic Training Education Programs from across the
state of South Carolina including Charleston Southern University, College of Charleston, Erksine
College, Lander University, Limestone College, the University of South Carolina, and Winthrop
University.
This year’s program is anchored by two keynote presentations. The first keynote session will be presented
by the University of South Carolina Sports Medicine Directors/Physicians, Dr. Jeffrey Guy and Dr.
Christopher Mazoue. The interactive presentation will look at current techniques in arthroscopic surgical
repair of an elbow with an associated dissection. The second keynote will be provided by Dr. Stefan
Montgomery of South Carolina State University. Dr. Montgomery will present on medical emergencies in
the athletic setting. In addition to these programs the workshop is designed to expose athletic training
students to a variety of current topics in the field of Athletic Training. This year’s additional topics
include:
- Why Are You Doing That? Applying Evidence Based Practice - Daniel Hannah/Scott DeCiantis
- Injury Evaluation Priorities - Samantha Boudreau
- Closed Chain Rehabilitation Scenarios - Yum Nguyen
- Therapeutic Modality Decision Making - Susan Rozzi
- Integration of Strength Training in Athletic Training – Kelly Dormandy
- Young Professionals Committee Meeting – Dawn Minton
The workshop culminates in the 2011 Athletic Training Students Quiz Bowl. The wining institution will
represent the state at the Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association district competition in Reston,
Virginia later this spring.
The workshop will be hosted at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, SC on Friday February 18, 2011.
The event will start at 1:00 PM with keynote speakers beginning at 3:15 PM. The Quiz Bowl competition
